I really enjoy my pastimes, my work, where I live (on an island, no less), but the lifestyle doesn't really lend itself to socializing much. (This is probably due to living on an island more than anything, since I seem to recall having more of a social life on the mainland...)

I've dated a few geeks and enjoyed our geek time together, but I also happen to be really into spirituality, philosophy, ethics, communication, questioning everything / analysis, and ...optimism! I know there are other geeks like me out there, but it seems hard to find any who are local. So... any geeks near Seattle with similar outlooks who are interested in friendship (maybe more, but friendship alone is to be treasured!), playing WoW, examining life, hitting the occasional movie / bookstore / sushi restaurant, etc.? Drop me a line!

1) Consume large quantities of sugared caffiene (Mountain Dew, Espresso, Water Joe, Red Bull, etc.)

2) Hate mornings, love to work in a comfort zone that usually ends about 2-3AM (or later for you young pups).

3) Have more than one computer in your house, or the one computer you have in your house has many "customized" options and features that you installed yourself.

4) NOT run any Microsoft Product as your primary OS (yes, you can have a Windows computer, I have several, but Linux and Solaris and FreeBSD are more predominate than Windows in my house).

5) Do you go to movies and wonder what kind of computer generated the special effects (you get more points if you KNOW what computer generated the special effects by some characteristic of the special effects).

More signs coming later.. I'm busy g33king and have to get back to that now..

so, how am I spending christmas eve?

by going through all my bins & boxes of parts & cables & associated computer do-hickies.

good lord, I have amassed a huge amount of crap. All the 8-bit ethernet cards you would ever dream of. I'm swimming in IDE cables. The pile of power cables fills two milk crates.

I have piles entitled things like "ancient networking" for all the thin-net & thick-net stuff & parallel-to-10baseT converters, and "input devices" for mice, keyboards, tablets and UPC scanners, and these piles are scattered all over the basement.

And I have a 21" monitor box full of CAT5 that I picked up when I got the rack.

Common sense says I should shovel it all up and toss it all.

hmmmm...
